I am interested in theory and models that give insight into the mechanisms of evolution and that will allow us to make predictions about the outcome of evolution experiments. My previous work has focused on predicting evolutionary optimal states for (microbial) metabolism and on defining properties of ecological and evolutionary interactions for systems that do not go to a evolutionary stable state (such that traits keep changing in evolutionary time). In the Origins center I will use models and theory to predict evolution at different levels, such as the genome, the phenotype and the species interactions.
